How to update Date Of Exit in EPFO?

Employee’s Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has made transfer of Provident funds from one EPF account to another EPF account easier for their members in online mode.

If you are planning to transfer PF money from one personal finance (PF) account to another, then make sure that you have updated your details such as name, address, PAN card number, Link Aadhar Card with Mobile Number because there might be some differences in your previous account details and present account details during the process of PF transfer.                                                                      

If you want to do a PF transfer without updating your previous account details, then you will face issues.

Have you ever gone through the “Details of previous account are different than present account” error while trying to transfer your Provident Fund from a Previous Employer PF account into Present employer PF account.

The main reason for the error is “Your date of exit is not updated in your old PF account before applying for a PF transfer”.

How to update Date Of Exit in EPFO?

Recently I have tried to transfer my Provident Fund from Previous Employer account into Present employer Provident Fund Account and got an error as “Details of previous account are different than present account. Hence Claim request cannot be processed”.

As per below screenshot Date of Exit (DOE) is not updated in my Second Employer so EPF portal is not allowed to transfer the PF amount.

To resolve “Details of previous account are different than present account. Hence Claim request cannot be processed” error, Date Of Exit should be updated in EPFO Service History.

It can be updated in 2 ways. Those are,

  1. Requesting your Previous Employer 
  2. Employees can update their date of exit

 

1) Requesting your Previous Employer to Update your Date of Exit

Usually the Previous Employer will update your Date of Exit in the EPFO unified portal within 2 months. Suppose they didn’t update the DOE then Send the formal mail request to the previous employer with EPFO Service History page Screenshot & required details.

Within a week time, previous company has updated my Date of Exit in EPFO portal.

Most of the time, Previous company HR will not maintain a healthy relationship with their former employees (they wouldn’t respond to your mail properly) However EPFO allowing their members to update “Date of Exit” by own

2) Employees can update their date of exit

Employees can update their Date of Exit by own -> Two months after quitting the job or 

post two months of your last PF deposited by your former employer

Let’s see step by step procedures to update the DOE.

Steps to update Date of Exit in EPFO Portal

a) Login into EPFO member portal

Enter the UAN Number, Password and Captcha code > Click on “Sign in”

b) Navigate to Mark Exit page

Click on  “Manage” > “Mark Exit” Option

In Mark Exit page, Select your “Previous Provident Fund” Member Id in Select Employment dropdown, Once Member Id selected EPFO unified portal will fetch the related data and display the result 

Here, Before updating the Date of Exit remember the below points else proper Date updation will not happen.

  1. Go to Passbook portal & Select the previous employer’s PF Member Id -> Click on “View Passbook” note the last contribution made by previous employer. Usually Companies will deposit their contribution one month later (Example Current month PF contribution will be deposited in next month by employer’s)
  2. Once previous employer’s Last PF Contribution month noted then select the last day of the same month as “Date of Exit” and Select the reason of exit as “CESSATION (SHORT SERVICE)
  3. Mark Exit page -> “Select Date of Exit” dropdown will suggest only one month to select the “Date of Exit”
  4. Date of exit can only be updated after 2 months of last contribution made by employer
  5. You are not required to enter exact resigning date

 

In below screenshot Employer’s Last contribution is Aug 2021, Selected Date of Exit is 26th August 2021 (Nearly last day of the month)

Select the Checkbox in result and Click on “Request OTP”

Enter the OTP and Select the Checkbox -> Click on “Submit” button

How to update Date Of Exit in EPFO?

You will receive the message as “Date of Exit updated successfully”. Now you are eligible to submit an Online request for Online PF Transfer and Online Transfer claim.

Once you update the exit date, it cannot be changed again.

If you are facing any error, you have to fill “Joint declaration form” and get the signature from employer then submit it to respective EPFO Office. Once submitted, related details will be corrected from the EPFO office.

How to check Date of Exit is updated or not

1.Navigate to Service History page

Click on  “View” > “Service History” Option

The Service History page will display the list of employers which you have worked along with the Date of Joining, PF Member Id, Previous employment and Date of exit.
